Officer Jack Richter on the job...

Officer Jack Richter on the job...

A conversation with Jack Richter is a conversation with a genuinely enthusiastic and caring policeman. Officer Richter has patrolled many areas of Los Angeles over the years and is particularly stricken by what happens on Skid Row. As he puts it, “Once you’re on Skid Row, you’re in dire straits. When you’re on Skid Row and a woman, it’s even worse.”

Women who are disenfranchised, homeless and struggling with addiction are an oft forgotten slice of the populace, but they have found a champion in the “His Sheltering Arms” shelter. Located on 11101 South Main Street, the shelter has been providing food, medical services, drug and alcohol recovery, career guidance and family assistance for over 25 years.

“I went down to the shelter a couple months ago, intending only to stay a couple minutes and ended up staying a couple of hours. That shelter has made an art of doing god’s work on the devil’s budget! The women are required to chart their progress and are held accountable for it. I’ve met women who have gotten clean, done what the courts have ordered them to do and even move on to get jobs. And these are women who have been homeless, in prison and on the streets with severe alcohol and drug problems. That’s huge.”

In honor of the work His Sheltering Arms has done, Officer Richter is hosting a charity benefit at LoftSEVEN this Thursday, November 19th.

“If I have any talent at all, it’s being able to call the right people,” Richter quips about the charitable donations of food (courtesy of Royal Clayton’s Restaurant)  drink and the LoftSEVEN penthouse for the affair.

We invite you to come check out the event, if not for the cinema, music and silent auction, come to support the incredible work of a humble organization.

“I hope the one thing we get out tonight is awareness,” says Richter. “Hopefully more people will leave thinking that we all need to help these people out.”

Thanks to everyone who came out and watched Pac-Man run for dear life. To the bar! The food was ridiculous, the larger-than-life retrogaming was out of control,  and Little Dragon was on fire. If you came out and got a Flip camera, send us pictures and video…we’d love to see your take on the party. If you weren’t there, here’s a glimpse of what you missed.

It's hard out there for a blip.

Thanks again to everyone who came out, and be sure to tag yourself in the pictures on the Smirnoff Facebook Page, and drop by and say hello to us while you’re at it.

Cheers!

The November Sample Sale last Sunday was one of our best yet! Racked LA’s Lisa Boosin was there and had some awesome things to say about us here:

On the way out of the Billion Dollar Babes sale, we heard more than a few babes grousing about the selection. “I expected more name brand designers, and better prices” was pretty much the common complaint.Huh. It seems like some women would rather spend $90 on a pair of baggy gray sweatshorts from Alexander Wang than take the same money and buy something totally unique and handcrafted from a local up-and-coming designer.

If you find yourself saying “Hell yeah!” to column B, then the Loft Seven sample sale is for you. It’s a once-a-month event held the [second] Sunday of each month. Each edition features different designers, so there’s definitely an incentive to go and check out a new batch of emerging talent…

The sale takes over the entire penthouse floor of the loft. There were about 20 different merchants, offering a very good spread of wares. Jewelry, clothing, headgear, t-shirts, leather goods—all of it very unique. And so much craftsmanship, so much love packed into every piece…

Oh, and did we mention free booze?

This event is so much fun, and a really brilliant way to discover new looks. And make new friends. And drink mimosas on the roof of a building. You can’t argue with all that.

Thanks to everyone that came out! Every second Sunday of the month, you can expect another great Sample Sale to hit downtown L.A. We’ve got some of our favorite photos of the event as well. They’re also uploaded to the LoftSEVEN Facebook Fan Page, so make sure to tag yourself and become a Fan to stay up to date on all of our events!

Dec. 15 is our Holiday Penthouse All-Star Rooftop Standup! Should give us enough time to work on the name.

Rooftop Standup is taking a hiatus for November to eat turkey and hibernate.  But we’ll be back for an amazing show on December 15th!  So mark your calendars for the Holiday Penthouse All-Star Rooftop Standup. Inside because, you know, it’s freezing out there. The hottest comics from previous rooftop shows will come together for a line up that will make your belly hurt!
You don’t want to miss the first-ever Penthouse Standup, do you?  We didn’t think so.  Be there or miss out on the real fun.

All of us downtowners know that you can spy your neighborhood cafe or apartment building on your favorite TV show on any given day. Of course, that doesn’t make it any less cool. LoftSEVEN makes another primetime appearance tonight when it’s featured in a crazy food orgy scene (yeah, we know). Some of our favorite photos of filming below and the episode’s promo has a quick peek at what a food orgy actually entails.

You can check out the full episode “It Happened To Me” on CBS tonight at 10pm or on the CSI: NY site!

“Ok sure mom, the babysitter’s dead, but have you seen this dress?”

There was once a simpler time, when movie conflicts were solved with a big frat party, a triumphant three-pointer at the buzzer or…a fashion show. What’s that you say? The babysitter died, all the money your Mom left you is gone, you’ve lied your way into an executive assistant job and you’re only 17? No worries! Let’s throw a fashion show! This Wednesday, we invite you to join LoftSeven, Christina Applegate and (a then unknown) David Duchovny for this month’s movie night feature, Don’t Tell Mom The Babysitter’s Dead.  You know the rules, first-come-first-serve, so only the first 100 people will be admitted. Bring your friends, kick back and don’t forget to grab a bottle of your favorite imbibement….it’s BYOB.

Hypebeast had a recap of Activision’s DJ Hero launch party at LoftSEVEN. Most impressively were the cool photos they posted up. Our favorites below!

On Thursday night, the latest music-based video game from Activision enjoyed an exclusive VIP launch as DJ HERO now places you in a role similar to previous games such as GUITAR HERO. The event hosted by Ben Baller included a number of notable personalities, including Mr. Cartoon, Eddie Cruz, James Bond, and Everlast amongst many others, as they all took their turns spinning. A global release is slated for October 27th and 30th respectively in the US and Europe.
