At a time when headlines tend toward gloom, nearly 400 business, civic and community leaders gathered to celebrate more than a dozen standout projects that spurred investment, created jobs and brought people together in Downtown in 2009.

The ninth annual Downtowners of Distinction Awards, presented by Los Angeles Downtown News at the Los Angeles Athletic Club on Feb. 23, highlighted 13 key projects in the area [...]

The 13 district winners were chosen by the Los Angeles Downtown News editorial board, with the criteria being the impact they had on the greater community and on Downtown Los Angeles as a whole.

And repping the Jewelry District? Alongside Chabad of Downtown Los Angeles synagogue, there is LoftSEVEN’s Josh and Stephanie accepting the award. We’ve been all about creating a community in DTLA and we’re happy that the Downtown News editorial staff selected us for this amazing distinction!

Factory Place’s 1330 building hosts the Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Party on Wednesday, February 24.

The Factory Place Arts Complex celebrates its grand opening this month with guns and booze at its Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms Party on Wednesday, February 24, 2010.

Before entering the party, invited guests will fire shotguns at the nearby Los Angeles Gun Club in order to gain admittance to the event. Once inside, guests will be granted access to Factory Place’s expansive event complex, where the entertainment will include an open bar, cigars and a live jazz band. They can also enjoy themselves playing one of the many casino games, including poker, craps, blackjack and roulette, where gamblers will play to earn money for Downtown’s own Inner City Arts, a program that uses art to empower inner city youth.

“Downtowners are a special breed. The party scene has really taken to the speakeasy feel that comes from the area’s history,” said AP Consulting LA’s owner Josh Gray-Emmer. “We wanted to take that tucked-away, gangster theme to the extreme.”

The event marks the Factory Place Arts Complex’ introduction to the neighborhood. The original 1308 Factory Place building is one of the original artist loft buildings in downtown. As Downtown’s latest major housing development 1330 Factory Place boasts 53 units with another 35 on the way. Although leasing just started in mid-December, the newest phase of the complex is nearly half full.

“We wanted to introduce Factory Place to the community, and everybody loves a party,” said Stephanie Estes, partner at AP Consulting LA and co-host of the party.

We’re back! Rooftop Standup Comedy Night has returned. This time, we’re trying a little things different, setting up around the corner on top of the Spring Tower Lofts (above local favorite LA Cafe, in case you don’t know where that is).

Another successful trip to Sundance! It was a lot of hard work and a little bit of heartache, but we made it happen. We want to thank Flaunt Magazine for turning the Colony Mansion into the Flaunt Mansion, which was an enormous success though the snow and pissed off wolves (yeah, wolves, seriously) tried ruining our fun. But it didn’t matter as everybody put on an amazing show and had a great time.

AP Consulting was in full effect, enjoying all that the festival had to offer. For over a decade, we’ve been putting people together to throw the biggest and best parties out there. We’d love to thank everybody that was involved in making another successful Sundance trip happen again! Can’t wait to do it next year!

Great lunch today at the MySpace Cafe with Orlando Bloom, Mila Kunis and Juliette Lewis followed by kickin’ it on Main Street, so shopping, some gifting, then back the Village at The Yard for some more hanging out with our friends at Fred Segal. Then home for a nap while Greg gifts Cartel Noir Clothing to Christina Prousalis who is in a movie up here and several TV shows. She will be wearing his designs on the carpet and at some photo shoots.

Also, last night Tina won her first SAG award for Inglorious Bastards. She was a member of the cast and we’re really proud of her. Here I am with her and Levar Burton of Reading Rainbow, Star Trek and Twitter fame at the TweetHouse!

Tonight we’ll be going to Chefdance, followed by The HRC Party, and then of course closing it out till 4am at The Flaunt Mansion (which we provided for the excellent people at Flaunt Magazine) for the Skateland party. And who do we have at this party? Leonardo DiCaprio, Sandra Bullock and Emile Hirsch! We’ll keep you posted and HOPEFULLY get some photos up here for you!

AP Consulting, the great minds behind LoftSEVEN, is headed to Park City, Utah, to use its magic touch on the Sundance Film Festival for yet another year. It should be an amazing time, so we’re going to keep you guys in the loop for the week that we’ll be out there.

However, with the leadership of Los Angeles City Councilmember José Huizar and support from Mayor Villaraigosa, major changes are set to take place over the next ten years. Counted among them will be a reactivation of dormant theaters, an emphasis on smart parking and transit options to serve Broadway, getting local residents involved in the actual planning process, and making “the dream of riding a streetcar downtown by 2014 a reality” to quote from the Bringing Back Broadway site.

As ambitious as the committee’s plans are, this wouldn’t be the first time that revitalization has been dreamt up for the famed corridor. To get some historical insight, check out this article from DowntownNews.com, published when the initiative was first announced back in 2007. Critics worry that this project may run into the same pitfalls (i.e., lack of funding, half-hearted support from residents, etc), but remain ultimately hopeful that this could signal a new era for DTLA.
